RIAFA

Reading Is A Family Affair

 

When: Monthly turn-in for all students (nightly reading)

 

--Program encourages students to read as a family by using a monthly calendar to record daily book reading

 

--Calendars are turned in at school and those who participate receive a coupon for Panther Den

 

--Year-end parties are also rewarded to students who complete all monthly calendars

 

 

 

 

 

Coffee with the Principal

 

When: One Friday per  month in the school library

 

--Provides important information to parents/family members about happenings around campus

 

--serves as a Q & A to connect with Polk parents and guardians

 

 

 PTA Membership Meeting

 

When: One Friday per month, often following Coffee with the Principal

 

--Functions as an open forum for members to collaborate and help improve the educational experiences of our Panthers through programs, fundraisers, staff support and school upgrades

 

 

   Walking School Bus

 

When: One Wednesday morning (mostly monthly before school

 

--Morning walk to Polk with staff and family members from designated locations to campus in order to promote exercise, pedestrian safety and wellness

 

 

 

Wellness Walks 

 

 When: One Wednesday per month during student’s PE time (meet on blacktop off Amposta through back gate)

 

--Parents/guardians/family members can join their Panthers and participate in walking/running laps to promote exercise and healthy lifestyles

 

 

 

 

 

          Fun Run

 

When: One Saturday morning per month (meet on blacktop off Amposta)

 

--PE coaches and staff join Polk families on a run/walk around the campus followed by open gym/playground

 

--Students who attend at least two Fun Runs will receive a special Fun Run shirt or similar item to commend their participation

 

 

 

 

Panther Den

 

When: One Friday per month during student’s lunch period (for all students)

 

 

--Students can use Pawprint tickets (earned at school for following PAWS), RIAFA dollars or their own money to purchase small trinkets ex: stickers, notebooks and squishy toys, etc.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Spirit Fridays

 

When: Throughout the year

 

--Fundraiser that supplies student body with school spirit by selling one of a kind designed shirts and other apparel.

 

--Students can show their school spirit by wearing their Polk Pride gear every Friday
